SOMA x NIKLAS / EYES WITHOUT FACE
A unique sculpture vase that was digitally sculpted, materialized with the use of digital fabrication technologies and finished by hand by NIKLAS.
Is beauty in the pristine, the symmetrical, or the untouched? Is it maybe the classical, the orthodox, or the academic? Perhaps in the detailed or the accurate.
There is beauty in the arbitrary, the marked, the whiffler.
The 3D printing process has left its evidence, the seam lines, and spillages here and there. Marks permanently engraved and sealed with fire on the face of the object. Then glaze applied on the surface and some parts went smooth, but others stayed ringled. It’s not makeup, it's skin.
The fire has left a mark, a condition, an
unstable self. It's not an object anymore, it's a personality.
Now you know all its flaws, is it beautiful?
